What an awesome experience! To be part of a National campaign brought the realization that we are the example of heart health! This inspires me to continue my journey towards a heart healthy lifestyle! Thank you to everyone who participated. You rock!

What a beautiful sea of red at the Killingly Commons about an hour ago. I am so proud of all of you.

I am sad not to be on the bus but a sinus infection with a nagging cough and massive headache are keeping me here but I will be watching the live stream.

Have fun! SMILE! and carry on!!

Best wishes to Cindy Parsons and all the FTF models! I can hardly wait for the pics from the rest area and the Fashion Show.

Just two more days and we’ll be in NYC, celebrating our collective heart health, knowing that we will pay-it-forward day after day. I am blessed by my family, you lovely ladies (my sistas), Coach Pat, and our community supporters. Congrats, Cindy! You’ll rock that red carpet! Thumpity, thump, thump!

My heart says that I am healthy, and I am honored to have Cindy representing all of us heart healthy ladies.
I am so excited to be representing our little corner of the state, the ‘Quiet Corner…’ NOT! We will not be queit anymore. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to be invited to such a national event. NYC HERE WE COME!!!.

Thank you to Linda and all who have assisted you with our journeys!

I am so excited to go to NYC on Wednesday! And I am so proud of Cindy Parsons, who will represent the FTF sisterhood on the runway. She embodies all that is good about Follow the Fifty. Congratulations, Cindy!
This trip to NYC represents special challenges for me, but also provides another opportunity to throw out the word “can’t” and replace it with “I will.” You see, I just had a total knee replacement on Jan. 14th and am writing this from my bed at Westview Health Care Center. I am being discharged home on Monday, and received medical clearance to attend this once-in-a-lifetime event. But this trip is only possible because of the support of my FTF family. Great effort has been made to accomodate my needs on the bus, at the auditorium, etc. Even seating has been planned with my new special needs in mind. I want to thank every FTF sister; my husband; Linda Colangelo; Dr. Kesselman and many folks in NYC for making this possible. I am over the moon with joy. We ARE the power of one.

I’m still in shock over hearing that one of our own models will be on the catwalk modeling in the show! WOW! That is really exciting! This is like a dream and to think that it’s happening in the Quiet Corner! Well…we aren’t so quiet any more. It was so nice yesterday to see that ‘sea of red’ every place I went. I don’t quite remember seeing so much red on any other first Friday of February. I think that maybe our message is getting out there in northeast Connecticut and I’m happy to see that! I’m so grateful for Linda and for Sue Starkey too! You ladies have done so much for us-there just aren’t words enough to express the gratitude.
This is truly an amazing adventure and NYC has no idea of what is about to hit them! Let’s just pray that they are ready for us!

It’s hard to believe that it has already been a year since this incredible journey of heart health began for my sisters and me. I cannot begin to thank those that made Follow the Fifty a reality for me. I have definitely overcome some major hurdles in my life and finally feel like I am taking control. This opportunity that was given to me is definitely only the beginning of a wonderful jouney. Now, to think that we as a sisterhood are going to NYC to be part of an even bigger showcase of heart health is absolutely amazing.
Thank you to everyone who has made what at one point seemed like dreams to all of us…reality.

Especially on today, this day of Hearth Health awareness, my heart beats widely happy and grateful for the Follow the Fifty initiative. I can’t say thank you enough to the campaign sponsors, managers, and partners for all the support and opportunities that have awakened me and empowered me to take control of my own health destiny. To our the models: I am forever grateful to you and proud to be a member of our model family. Can you imagine how much fun we’ll have on our road trip to NYC!? Ahhhh, just another great part of this journey…

I cannot believe that we will be leaving for New York City in a few days! I feel so humbled that our FTF had an impact beyond what I thought. I can’t wait to see the fashion show of red and know that means heart health for women, for my FTF sistas (they already know!). As the celebrity models walk down the aisle, they will be able to look out into the audience and see an ocean of red glowing with our personal accomplishments, stories, and support. I hope that the models on the runway are lifted by our presence, because we are the ones who forged our way for communities to get heart healthy. Every one of us in the audience has a story and I am looking forward to seeing the models use our energy and enjoy the support, the sisterhood and last, but far from least, the fashion!

As I got dressed this morning, I couldn’t believe that a year has gone by already, because this past year has been a whirlwind. Last January, I was morbidly obese and suffering from depression, anxiety, and crippling low self-esteem. I had just found out that my position had been eliminated, had just ended an abusive relationship, and felt very alone in the universe. I responded to the ad in the Shopper’s Guide because I so badly needed positivity in my life.

And it feels like from the moment I clicked “Send” on that initial email that a tornado swept me from the black and white life I was living, took me “Over the Rainbow,” and set me and my house down on the Wicked Witch named Unhappiness in this Technicolor world. Just like Dorothy with her ruby slippers, my red t-shirt and I have been journeying through a yellow bricked world full of singing, dancing, new, healthier foods, and obstacles that threatened to lure me off the path. But thanks to the help of my FTF sisters and my coach (my mom) and my cheerleaders (my sister, boyfriend, best friend, and other dear friends) I’ve been able to stay on the path, never once feeling like I was being judged for my missteps.

When I took the stage on November 30, it felt like I had just been given Courage, a newly-wired Brain, and of course, a new Heart. I was sad that the official journey was over, but knew that the real work—maintaining this healthy lifestyle was just beginning.

I cannot believe that this journey will continue to OZ— a.k.a New York City—to be a part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. It feels like I’ve come full circle, from being the obese, depressed woman on her couch last January, eating junk food, watching Project: Runway, and dreaming about being a model to rocking a fabulous red dress at the same show I wanted so badly to be in. I along with the other FTF models will be walking the runway in spirit besides Cindy Parsons.

As Dorothy says in the Wizard of Oz, “if I ever go looking for my heart’s desire again, I won’t look any further than my own back yard. Because if it isn’t there, I never really lost it to begin with.” I cannot believe I have found so much love, so much support, so many amazing, life-changing opportunities in my own “backyard”– the Quiet Corner.

This is so exciting. It only seems fitting that since we have taken over the Quiet Corner now we have to go to NYC to start spreading the news! They won’t know what hit them :)
